616 S. Adams Street sits on part of Lots 29 and 30 of the Alves Addition, recorded in Deed Book 39, page 190. The parcel fronts 64 feet on the east side of Adams Street and runs back 100 feet, containing approximately 6,400 square feet.
The deed history reflects several mid-century transfers and a 1948 deed of correction that clarified boundary lines between adjoining Taylor and Schaus lots – a small but important adjustment in the subdivision’s layout. Notable transactions include:
• March 22, 1948 – conveyed to Virgil D. Clark (DB 136, p. 317)
• December 23, 1948 – deed of correction (DB 140, pp. 301-303)
• July 31, 1964 – conveyed by Robert F. Hayden (DB 216, p. 37)
The present one-story, wood-frame home was built in 1945, during Henderson’s post-World War II building boom. A period real estate ad described it as a three-bedroom home with wall-to-wall carpeting, venetian blinds, storm windows, and a garage – offered for $350 down and $76 per month, including taxes and insurance.
Today, the house retains its mid-century footprint with a detached one-car garage, standing as a representative example of Henderson’s practical, post-war residential growth along South Adams Street.
