Julius L. Baldauf was born 30 Oct 1867 in Louisville, Kentucky to Morris Baldauf (1836 – 1911) and Lina Kahn (1841 – 1912). They moved to Henderson by 1880.


Julius Baldauf married Gertrude Flexner (1870 – 1957) on 11 October 1900.

The marriage of Miss Gertrude Flexner and Mr. Julius L. Baldauf, of Henderson, has been set for Thursday, October 11. It will be very quietly solemnized at the home of the bride’s mother, Mrs. Esther Flexner, of 1841 Third street. The ceremony will be performed at 8 o’clock in the evening by Rabbi Moses, and the attendants will be Miss Mary Flexner, maid of honor, and Mr. Starling Thompson, of Henderson, best man.

Julius was a pharmacist who owned a store at 214 N Main, the Baldauf Building.


The Baldauf’s purchased a home at 940 N Main in 1904 from D. C. Worsham, moving from 518 First Street.

The Gleaner Understands that Mr. Julius L. Baldauf has purchased the beautiful residence on North Main street until recently occupied by Mr. D. C. Worsham at and for the sum of twenty-five hundred dollars. Mr. Baldauf will have extensive repairs made on the residence and will occupy it about June 1. Mr. Baldauf’s residence on First street will be occupied by Mr. C. W. Woodbridge.

Julius L. Baldauf, 58, well known Henderson druggist, died suddenly at his home on North Main street Saturday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock of heart attack.
For several months Mr. Baldauf has been in declining health, but his condition was believed to be improved. Saturday morning he complained of a severe headache, and during the afternoon suffered a relapse. His death came as a distinct shock to the entire family and a large circle of friends, as on Friday he was able to visit his store.
Mr. Baldauf was a member of the Henderson Rotary club and was active in civic work of that organization. For twenty-five years he was a director of the Henderson National bank, holding that position at the time of his death.
Born in Louisville, Mr. Baldauf moved with his parents to Henderson while he was quite young. He selected pharmacy for his life work and at age 25 was graduated from the Philadelphia Pharmacy college with honors. He then returned to Henderson and opened the drug store which still bears his name.
A few months ago he admitted A. E. Tucker into partnership and planned to retire from business.
Mr. Baldauf is survived by his wife, one daughter, Miss Helena; one brother, Dr. Leo K. Baldauf, of Louisville, and two sisters, Miss Minnie Baldauf, of Louisville, and Mrs. F. Julius Fohs, of New York City.
A man of upright principles and integrity, Mr. Baldauf was one of the most popular business men in Henderson. He was ever willing to serve in any capacity for the betterment of his community and his friends were legion.
Funeral services will be held from the residence this afternoon at 5 o’clock by S. O. Heilbronner.
The body will be taken to Louisville at 6:47 Monday morning, and will be buried in a Louisville cemetery Monday afternoon. Pallbearers will be: Abe Cohen, Bertram Man, M. M. Levy, A. E. Tucker, Arthur Katterjohn, S. O. Heilbronner, Dr. Quinn and Harbert King.
