This unassuming stretch of McKinley Street once anchored a pair of long-running, family-operated businesses that served generations of Henderson residents.
By the mid-20th century, Jack Bentley Lumber Co. operated here, advertising quality homes and custom millwork from its North McKinley location. Just next door the Bentley family also ran Bentley Appliance & TV, selling and servicing household staples such as RCA Victor televisions, Whirlpool appliances, refrigerators, washers, and dryers.
A 1971 newspaper article notes that the Bentley family operated both a lumber store and an appliance center beside their home on McKinley Street, reflecting a time when small, family-run enterprises were deeply woven into the neighborhood fabric.
While the buildings and surroundings have changed over the decades, 124 N. McKinley remains a quiet reminder of Henderson’s mid-century commercial life, when buying lumber, appliances, or a new television often meant dealing directly with the same local family year after year
