Reeder’s Grocery (500 Fagan Street)

Reeder’s Grocery was a neighborhood market located at the southeast corner of Fagan and Vine streets. The location had housed a grocery for years: Louis Marshall was listed at Fagan and Vine in 1905, and A. L. Marshall operated a grocery at 500 Fagan by 1909. By 1925, the business was associated with George A. Reeder.

The store offered staple and specialty groceries, seasonal vegetables, Kentucky Bakery bread and cakes, candy, cigars, and soft drinks, all advertised with “reasonable prices” and “courteous treatment.” The Reeder family remained connected to 500 Fagan as late as 1943, when George’s son, Pvt. Oscar A. Reeder, was serving in the United States Army.
