Elam Drug company was located at 238 Second Street.

The building at the corner of Second and Elm streets has been used as a drug store for many years, in fact it was erected for that purpose, and for a time prior to January 1st, 1907, was occupied by McFarland & Elam. Upon the above date the Elam Drug Company succeeded that firm and has since conducted the business. The company, which is a partnership, consists of E. C. Ward and John T. Elam.
The Elam Drug Company is what is usually termed an exclusive drug store, meaning that no soda fountain or ice cream parlor is maintained, but that the business is confined mainly to drugs and accessories, and including drugs, medicines, drug sundries, toilet articles, rubber goods, knives, razors, scissors, pocket books, hand bags, Beik’s and Lowney’s box candies, stationery, a full assortment of paints, oils, varnishes and window glass, cigars, tobacco, smokers’ articles, including the largest assortment of pipes in this section of the country, and the leading brands of domestic and imported cigars; a complete line of anti-toxines, bacteriuns and phylacogens, etc., and they are exclusive agents here for such well-known articles as “Vinol,” “Dr. Hess” stock foods, “Bourbon” hog cholera remedies, “Dike’s” standard family remedies, which are not a “cure all” but a separate remedy for each ailment; “Wyeth’s” sage and sulphur hair tonie; “Milk’s Emulsion,” “Lax Fos,” “Waterman’s Ideal Fountain Pens,” “New Era” paints, made by Acme White Lead and Color Works; “Pee Gee Flat Koat” line of paints for interior decorations; “Ansco” cameras and photograph supplies; “Zemo” preparation for eczema and all skin eruptions; “Bell Bon” line of toilet articles; “Orrine” for cure of liquor habit; “Dent’s” dog remedies, etc., etc.
Particular attention is given to the careful and accurate compounding of physicians’ prescriptions, and none but registered pharmacists are ever permitted to handle prescriptions, and Squibb’s chemicals are employed in this department.
The pharmaceutical department embraces the following lines: Parke, Davis & Co., H. K. Mulford & Co., Sharp & Dohme, Ely, Lilly & Co., and Upjohn & Co.
The Elam Drug Co. makes it a point to carry nothing but the best on the market, thus assuring their customers of purity, fresh drugs, and accuracy in all departments. They carry one of the largest stocks in Western Kentucky, and in fact it is very doubtful if a more complete assortment could be found in the retail drug houses of the large cities. They in consequence enjoy a large patronage, not alone from Henderson, but as well from within a radius of many miles, for the Elam Drug Company is well and favorably known throughout this entire section of the state.
