Graham Hill takes its name from James Graham, an early Henderson County resident remembered as a man of good standing and character. According to The Gleaner (June 9, 1912), Graham worked in the tobacco business for William Soaper and owned a farm about two miles east of town along the old Owensboro Road.

It was this farm – located just beyond the Jewish cemetery – that gave rise to the name “Graham’s Hill.” Over time, the name became attached not only to the rise in the landscape but also to the surrounding crossroads community east of Henderson, still labeled Graham Hill on maps today.

Like many rural place-names in Henderson County, Graham Hill preserves the memory of an early settler whose land and livelihood became a lasting geographic reference – a quiet reminder of how farms, roads, and families shaped the county long before modern development.
