Obituary:
“Uncle Nick” Dixon, one of the few old time, ante bellum type of negroes left in the city, died Tuesday morn-ing. He was nearly seventy-six years of age and suffered from rheumatism.
The old darky was a most familiar character on the streets of Hender-son. He was loved by all who knew him and his death will be regretted for it marks another step in the rapid passing away of the type of people so dear to the South.
For many years “Uncle Nick” was the trusted servant in the family, of Governor Dixon. Towards the end of the war he enlisted in the union army as a private and was promoted to the rank of sergeant. He was discharged at lae close of the war and came howe to marry Polly Dixon, who had een the nurse of Dr. Arch Dixon, of his city. His wife survives him.
For many years “Uncle Nick” had been the foreman of Clark’s factory.
He was a member of the First Baptist church and of Canby Lodge of the I. O. O. F. He was an honest, hard-working man and possessed many sterling qualities.
The funeral services will be held this afternoon and will be in charge of the lodge.
