614 N Green
Today, it’s home to Dave’s Pizza, but the address has quite a history beyond pizza. These old newspaper clippings offer a few glimpses into its past:
• 1947: Windhaus & Payne Cleaners appeared at this address in an advertisement offering dry-cleaning equipment for sale. A 1948 classified also listed N. A. Martin here as the contact for a dry-cleaning plant being sold.
• 1950: Hoye Sales Company advertised at 614 N. Green as a wholesale distributor, including an ad for Fisk tires.
• 1954: Chiropractor Dr. R. E. Hight listed his office at the address.
• 1958: Henderson Floor Covering Co. announced its opening here. Owners Ray Thomas and Hugh Freels offered linoleum, tile, carpet, and upholstery, along with installation.
• 1959: Thomas Upholstery advertised furniture upholstering at the same address, offering 1,500 patterns and colors, plus pickup and delivery.
• 1975–76: The address was also home to a teenage entrepreneur’s ice cream shop! A July 16, 1976, Evansville Press feature reported that Nunnelly’s shop had opened June 4, 1975, and offered 40 flavors. By the time the article appeared, it had moved from 614 N. Green to 407 S. Green.
