Roger W. “Doc” Cabell handed an ice cream cone to a customer a few days before he closed Acme Drug Store in 1970. He had operated the store at what would now be 701 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. since 1936 and it had become a focal point of that neighborhood. He is honored in the name of the Cabell Platt Medical Center at 700 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave.
