Roger W. “Doc” Cabell ( ) owned and operated Acme Drug Store at 701 Dixon St. (now Martin Luther King Jr. Ave.) from 1936 to 1970.
According to a Hugh Edward Sandefur story in The Gleaner of May 14, 1970, “Cabell has been more than a druggist to his friends and customers, dispensing medication and free medical advice at the same time. He opened his local store after operating a drug store in Louisville for nine years.”
He closed his pharmacy and package liquor store May 17, 1970. For 34 years it had been a “focal point” for residents of the community, providing drugs, patent medicines and ice cream at that corner, although he erected a new building in 1951.
