Dick Floyd opened his first store in 1956 at 1048 Clay Street. He later opened Dick’s North in 1961 at Marywood Drive and U.S. 41-North, then moved across Marywood Drive to a newer store that later became North ‘N Foods. Then in 1967 Floyd opened Dick’s Suburban at Sand Lane and South Green Street, now a Goodwill Industries store. Many other members of Floyd’s extended family worked at the various stores. Mel and Tom Floyd operated the original store and a second store on North Green Street as D&M Family Foods.
