Dixie Bee Line, the forerunner of U.S. 41. This ferry crossed the Ohio river at the foot of Second Street.

Motorists on the highway were kept on track by signs painted on poles: blue capital letters DBL arranged vertically on a white background.

Those signs remained until 1926 when the road became part of the federal highway system and was renamed U.S. 41.
