George G Ellis was born 1846 to George and Mary Ellis in Morganfield, KY. He married Laura Harris Ellis (1852 – 1923) in 1879. George was a successful grocery store merchant in Henderson. George died on 24 Feb 1912 and was buried Fernwood Cemetery / Section 21 / Lot 1225 / Grave 4.

Obituary:
Death claimed George li. Ellis yesterday at his home, 116 South Main Street, after several weeks suffering with liver complications.
Mr. Ellis was born in Morganfield 65 years ago and lived there until he was nearly grown. He came to Henderson with his parents some time during the sixties and has lived here ever since. He became a clerk in the grocery of Mason & Heineman on Second street and afterward held a like position in the grocery of B. B. Williams on Main street. He then accepted a position as traveling salesman for a wholesale grocery house and after traveling several years went in business for himself opening a grocery on North Main street in the building now occupied by the Cimini fruit company. He conducted the grocery for several years and then built his present place of business on South Green street, corner of Center. Ellis’ Central market became a household word in the city.
He was one of the most prominent business men in the city. Mr. Ellis was married when a young man to Miss Laura Harris, of Mayfield, who survives him.
He was a deacon in the first Presbyterian church and was a devout member. He served the city on the school board but aside from this did not aspire to public honors. He lived a quiet business life.
Besides his wife he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Barney Hughes, of El Рaso, Tex., Mrs. Daniel F. Elliott, of Memphis; and two brothers, Henry
B. Ellis, of Houston, Tex., and Thomas B. Ellis, of this place.
The funeral will be conducted at 4 o’clock this afternoon from the First Presbyterian church by the pastor, Rev. Thomas Cummins. The interment will take place in Fernwood cemetery.
The following named persons will act as pallbearers: Honorary, B. G. Witt. Dr. James H. Letcher, Charles H. Dishman and Marion Duncan; active, W. H. Stites, T. Dyer, Judge J. H. Hart, J. W. ——-, Robert Vance, David Banks, Judge John L. Dorsey, and Judge B. C. Ward.
