First named Recreation Park, then Goodfellow Field, and now Kimmel Park, the lot at Sixth and Ingram Streets has hosted ball games since 1934.
The Henderson Goodfellows, a branch of the Henderson Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees), sponsored several soft ball leagues in the 1940’s. The field was named after this group for quite some time. The field was purchased from Col. Manning Kimmel and his brother Admiral Husband Kimmel, whom it is now named after.
