Goodfellow Field at Sixth and Ingram Streets, now Kimmel Park, was originally purchased and built as a ball field in 1933 by the YMCA playground ball league.
Lights were added in 1934.
The Henderson Goodfellows, a branch of the Henderson Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees), sponsored several soft ball leagues in the 1940’s. The field was named after this group. The field was purchased from Col. Manning Kimmel and his brother Admiral Husband Kimmel, whom it is now named after.
