HENDERSON, Ky.. Sept. 27.-(Special)-John Jewell, 31. was stabbed to death Tuesday night at Powell and Letcher Streets.
Fred Ellis, 64, who police said had a fight with Jewell, is held without charge. He was arrested near his home.Officers said Ellis was “too drunk to be questioned.” They said they were told Jewell had been drinking, too. The jugular vein and windpipe in Jewell’s throat were severed and he was severely slashed in the abdomen. He died before a physician reached him.
Surviving are: the parents. Mr and Mrs. D. D. Jewell: brothers Samuel, Charles and Alvin, and sister, Mrs. Dorothy Jenkins.

HENDERSON, Ky., Nov. 10 – A murder indictment against Fred Ellis, 64, a former city councilman, was dismissed Thursday by Circuit Judge Marlin L. Blackwell on motion of Commonwealth’s Attorney G. Talbott Berry. Ellis was arrested after John Jewell, 31, was stabbed to death in a street fight several weeks ago. Ellis said he cut Jewell in self-defense, according to police.
