I’ve seen this photo hundreds of times, but just recently saw this postcard and noticed the photographers name, Bert Hape. Down the rabbit hole I went….

Robert (Bert) B Hape was born 4 June 1876 to Ludwig “Louis” Hape (1841 – 1932) and Hannah E Singleton Hape (1841 – 1888) in Spottsville, KY.
Bert worked as a commercial photographer by trade.

Bert married Mable Thomas (1885- 1952) on 22 September 1909 in Vigo County, Indiana.

By 1920, Bert and Mable had moved to Terre Haute, IN. They lived at 26 S 18th Street while Bert worked at 813½ Wabash Ave, continuing in the photography trade. He worked for a time as a staff photographer for the Tribune-Star in Terre Haute.

Mable died 13 Nov 1952 (aged 67) and was buried at Highland Lawn Cemetery in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Bert died in April 1970 and was buried in Ridgewood Cemetery in Spottsville, Kentucky.
