The Gleaner has made arrangements to give the greatest popularty contest ever offered by a newspaper outside of the metropolitan press.
Twenty young ladies will be given a free trip at the expense of the paper to Mammoth Cave.
The date of this trip will be announced later, but will take place during the summer months or early fall, at the most pleasant time for it to be made.
The distribution of the trips will be as follows: To the young lady receiving the largest number of votes in the district from which she is entered will be awarded the Free Trip to Mammoth Cave with all expenses paid by the Henderson Gleaner.

THE PLAN:
Every person who subscribes for the Daily or Twice-a-Week editions of the Gleaner will receive a coupon entitling the holder to cast 100 votes for the lady of his choice for every $1.00 paid on subscription. These coupons can be voted at any time.
In addition to the coupon going with each dollar paid on subscription a coupon will appear in every issue of the Daily and Twice-a-Week editions counting one vote, which may be clipped from the paper and delivered at the Gleaner office in person or by mail on or before the date printed therein. These should be neatly trimmed around the margin and the name and district number plainly filled in with the name of the signer.
All that is necessary to enter a candidate in the contest is for some friend to cast a coupon for her and her name will thereafter appear in the list.
The plan of distributing the trip by districts insure absolute equality of chances to win in the various sections of the three counties in which the Gleaner’s circulation principally lies. A competent and suitable chaperone will be provided to accompany the young ladies.
FEATURES OF THE TRIP:
A few points about one of the greatest wonders of the world. Mammoth Care, one of the seven wonders of the world, is located in Edmonson county, Kentucky, 120 miles south of Louisville. A few of the sights the lucky young ladies will see therein are: The Giant’s Coffin, Star Chamber, Mammoth Dome, The Cataracts, Bacon’s Chamber, Lover’s Leap, Standing Rock, Martha Washington, Arm Chair, The Fat Man’s Misery, The Cork Screw, Acute Angle Avenue, Bridal Chamber, Bottomless Pit, Echo River, etc.. etc.
The object of this great offer is candidly stated to be primarily for the purpose of extending the circulation of the Gleaner and getting it into the purpose of extending the circulation of the Gleaner and getting into all the homes of the city and the three counties named. It costs no one anything for these twenty young ladies to have the great pleasure of a trip, the memories of which will be pleasantly cherished for a lifetime.
Subscriptions and renewals to the best Daily and Twice-a-Week paper in the State will do the work.
Subscriptions may be paid for as many years ahead as desired and the time will be extended for the full time paid for, and 100 votes will accompany every dollar paid.

My favorite part of the article/trip:
A. S. Winstead & Sons presented a bottle of their excellent “Silk Velvet” whisky before the departure, only for medicinal purposes. It was accompanied with a thimble and made the proviso that no more than a thimbleful should be partaken of at any one time.
