Club Alibi, owned by Mr. Welby, then later Trixie’s Alibi, owned by Frank Williams and Trixie LaMae, sold to George Hoffman in 1981 and became the Black Horse Lounge. Located on Hwy 41N, just South of Audubon State Park.
The building burned on 6 June 1989 from arson.
Black Horse Lounge to Open on Thursday:
George Hoffman says he has spent so much time and money remodeling the Trixie’s Alibi Lounge in Henderson that people won’t recognize the nightclub when it reo pens as the Black Horse Lounge on Thurs-day. Hoffman, an oilman, bought the facility from Frank Williams and Trixie LaMae after the state fire marshal said at least $10,000 needed to be spent on the lounge so it would meet fire codes. Then Hoffman stepped in when the longtime owners closed the place. He thought the location would be excellent for a country-western nightclub. “I’ve completely redone the decor,” Hoffman said. “It’s real nice. I thought Henderson needed a new place. I had my eye on that property for some time. T thought it would be a good investment.” Hoffman has hired Kenny Mason and his Country Lovin’ band to perform nightly on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays beginning at 8:30. He’s also making plans for a big New Year’s Eve celebration.
The interior of the Black Horse Lounge has been done in natural wood tones and earth colors. The bar and tables give the appearance of huge butcher blocks, and there is special lighting. Seating capacity is about 100. Martha Raber will be the manager of the facility.
