Midnight Blues opens with intriguing design
HENDERSON, Ky. – A 70-year-old former automotive garage and bicycle shop on First Street is the site of a new clothing and accessory shop, Midnight Blues. Sound different? It is. Owned by Frances and Michael Jones, life-long Henderson residents, Midnight Blues opened its doors in March. “It’s a weird, wacky place,” Mrs. Jones said, referring to both the diverse merchandise selection and the decor.
Midnight Blues offers a complete selection of denim items, including denim dresses, she said. Also available are jogging pants and other sportswear, including silk short outfits and streamlined shorts for bicycle racers, according to Mrs. Jones. For the woman on the go, Midnight Blues also has a miniskirt that, with the help of zippers, transforms into a pair of shorts, Mrs. Jones said. Accessories to be found at Midnight Blues include incense, perfume, jewelry, socks, hair accessories, makeup, bras, panty hose and sun-glasses, Mrs. Jones said. “We try to be different,” she said.
Just as unusual as the clothing and accessory selection at Midnight Blues is the way the shop looks. The color scheme is midnight blue and chrome, according to Mrs. Jones. She and her husband sprayed chrome paint on the walls and unfinished ceiling. The de cor also makes use of abundant mir-rors, Mrs. Jones said. Mr. and Mrs. Jones plan to eventually add a beauty shop and tanning salon to the shop, said Mrs. Jones.
