Raymond Arthur (R. A.) Hughes was born 21 Jan 1898 in Crossville, IL. He was the son of John and Mary Ida Kennedy Hughes.
Raymond married Anna Leigh Ellis in 1924 and they had three daughters.
Raymond died on 14 Dec 1979 (aged 81) in Henderson. He was buried in Fairmont Cemetery.

Raymond Arthur (R. A.) Hughes, 81, a Henderson businessman and civic leader for more than half a century, died at 9:30 last night in Community Methodist Hospital.
He was an owner of the Soaper-Hughes Tobacco Warehouse for 63 years and was also a Realtor and insurance man. He was a director of First National Bank and Henderson County State Bank. Mr. Hughes was on the boards of Community Methodist Hospital and the American Red Cross.
He was a past president of the Henderson-Audubon Area Chamber of Commerce and first president of the Community Chest.
In 1963 he was named Henderson’s Citizen of the Year. He was on the board of stewards of the First United Methodist Church of Henderson. He was also a member of the Masons and the Elks..
